Carbon steels are designated by AISI four-digit numbers. Carbon is the primary alloying element present in these steels. They contain 0.4% silicon and 1.2% manganese. Chromium, aluminium, molybdenum, nickel, and copper are present in traces. They also contain impurities such as sulfur, and phosphorous.
